Even if you don't know much about the subject, if you're going to write about it in an essay, then you're going to have to write about something you have a certain amount of knowledge of. This isn't always a great idea, but it is a requirement.Hopefully you understand what tennis essay topics should be and what you need to avoid. But, of course, it can still be as specific as you want it to be. You can research your subject or yo u can use Wikipedia, whichever way you feel comfortable with.
